58kg Western Canadian Champion :)
So here’s the scoop:
Flew in to Edmonton yesterday,
Lost 1 kg on the plane, ended up weighing in at 57.02 (I needed to be under 58.0 so had lots of room to spare).
Clean and Jerks were pretty ugly (ribs sinking in and back not staying tight), but had three sucessful lifts at 70kg, 75kg, 78kgs (again a new Personal Best)
So I totaled 135 which was good enough to win the 58kg weight class and qualify for nationals which are in Quebec May 18th. So all and all a pretty good day!
I text messaged my coach (who couldnt come because BC weightlifting has no money and he would have had to take time off work and pay his own way) and his reply was: congrats, I’m proud of you, see you Monday night at SFU-we got some work to do before nationals!
So crossfit will need to wait a little while longer…
But I could definitely get used to this competiting thing. Never had an andreline rush quite like it!
After the Port Alberni competition I wasnt hungry at all. But now Its like food is going right through me and I can’t stop eating!
and thats that! Got a banquet to go to tonight and then I fly home at 11am tomorrow.
Congrats Kelly!, any piccies or movies?
Cunning plan on breaking the equipment to give yourself more time
Congrats Kelly! Good job!
btw what is the structure of O-lifting competition? At the fullest extent do you get to represent Canada in the Olympics?
Good luck at Nationals!
k
btw How did it go ” break’n in” the singlet?
I hate to say it, but i kind of liked lifting in the singlet.
as for the structure of O-lifting competitions, there is a technical meeting the night before where it is declared what weight you are going to lift at. the morning of your competition, you then weigh in 2 hrs before your scheduled start time. if you are within your weight class you compete, if not you have an hour to either bring your weight up or down to make your weight class. So since It was declared at the technical meeting last night that I was representing BC in the 58kg weight class I needed to weigh between 53.1kg to 58.0kg.
Once the competition starts, Snatch is the first lift. The order of the lifters is determined by the starting weights, so I did not even start warming up until the 3rd lifter attempted there first lift because my first lift was the 17th lift of the session. You have 3 attempts at the snatch. If you miss the first attempt you have a choice to either re-due the weight or increase it, but you can never go down in weight. If there is no one after you, you have a mimimum of 2 minutes between attempts, however if there are other lifters doing weights inbetween your attempts, then you have 1 minute from the time the bar is re-set.
Once everyone is done Snatches, there is a 10 minute intermission and then the same process happens for clean and jerks.
Yeah, congrats that is awesome!!
All superheroes have their uniforms =)
Congrats!
