Milk: The New Sports Drink? A Review – Research Review

Due to the success max has had on the gallon of milk a day thing (NOTE, his success has to do with a whole lot of factors including eating sufficient protein and fat (which the gallon of milk helped contribute to) as well as working his ass off in the gym consistently) I have been getting a lot of questions on the milk thing.

I myself have pretty much eliminated dairy from my diet (will never completely eliminate anything and still have it occasionally when I’m over at other peoples houses and eat A LOT of eggs and drink goat milk) and would not put anyone on the gallon of milk a day program (many people are allergic to it or sensitive to it and have problems efficiently digesting it and there is just way too much sugar, chemicals and hormones for my liking, but I don’t know enough about it to give an “official”/educated opinion and it definitely has worked for some people (especialy people who were on calorie deprived diets and not getting enough protein and fat initially) so heres some research to make up your own opinion:

You need to lift heavy for milk to make any sense. The milk is for weight gain, which means both muscle AND fat. I gained a good amount of fat along with the muscle while guzzling a gallon a day. The nice part about it was that it was 2500 calories from the milk with lots of fat and protein content, while my food intake would be another 2000-3000 calories. I may move back up to a gallon a day again to gain another 5-10lbs, as it’s more and more apparent to me that absolute strength and power is such a huge part of Crossfit that I need as much as possible without losing too much strength/BW ratio.

    And, happy birthday Kelly.

Milk is a great product for gaining weight because it is…baby food.

To serve a purpose such as bulking up is ok, although a gallon a day for extended periods may start to cause other problems, high colesterol, heart disease etc.
