Making the wrong food choices (like excessive consumption of cheap carbohydrates and cheap vegetable oils that make inflammatory hormones) can fool the body into thinking that it is under microbial attack. The consequences will not be as extreme in the short term as a real microbial attack or injury (that is, screaming pain), but the end result of this constant generation of low-level inflammation that is below the perception of pain (silent inflammation) is the acceleration of the development of future chronic disease.

It is the balance of eicosanoids in your body that is the ultimate key to wellness.  Simply stated, the `good` eicosanoids promote cellular rejuvenation; the `bad` eicosanoids promote cellular destruction.  You need both good and bad eicosanoids to survive.  It`s when the balance of these powerful hormones is disrupted and you start making too many bad eicosanoids that you begin moving away from wellness and toward the development of chronic disease.  This is where your diet enters the picture.
