Good question was asked about the structure of an O-lifting competition and how it actually works. A 10 year old had to show me what to do in this very competition 2 years ago!
You weigh in 2 hours before you compete so all girls need to be at the gym at 8am, you will be called into the change room one at a time and a lady will ask you to step on a digital scale record your weight and ask you what your opening attempts are going to be. (we can always change the opening attempts after, I will tell you what to declare). Technically you are supposed to weigh-in wearing your underwear (there is always a girl weighing in girls and a boy weighing in boys) however they are usually pretty relaxed at local competitions.
You then have 2 hours to eat, get plenty of fluids in you and get ready to go!
Typically about 30minutes before the start time you go to the warmup area (which will be behind the bleachers) and put on your shoes and start moving about.
15 minutes before the competition start time you will need to line up at the end of the platform to be introduced.
The lifting order will be determined by the weight of your starting attempts. So for example there may be three lifters:
Lifter 1=35kg snatch, 40kg snatch, 43kg snatch
Lifter 2=37kg snatch, 40kg snatch, 42kg snatch
Lifter 3=45kg snatch, 50kg snatch, 53kg snatch
Lifter 1 will go first because they are starting with the lightest weight. If they make the lift (stand up with it), the competition volunteers will then change the weight on the bar and lifter 2 will have 1 minute to lift their first attempt. If lifter 2 misses their first attempt (drops it or presses it out) she will have the option of either repeating the lift or increasing the weight. If you are following yourself, you have 2 minutes between lifts, if you are following someon else, you have 1 minute between lifts. The order of the lifters is determined by the weight on the bar, so assuming everyone makes all their lifts the lifting order would look like this:
Attempt 1 Lifter 1-35kg
Attempt 2 Lifter 2-37kg
Attempt 3 Lifter 1-40kg
Attempt 4 Lifter 2-40kg
Attempt 5 Lifter 2-42kg
Attempt 6 Lifter 1-43kg
Attempt 7 Lifter 3-45kg
Attempt 8 Lifter 3-50kg
Attempt 9 Lifter 3-53kg
Your score from the snatch portion will just be the highest weight you lifted successfully so in reality only 1 attempt counts.
Typically the first attempt is one that you are pretty confident you will make. The second attempt is around a max and the third attempt is a max or new max.
You then have a 10 minute intermission and then the same thing will happen for clean and jerks.
But saying all that, you just have to show up and lift and I will tell you what to do and when
